A great way to kick off the month of June is with a fishing trip and you can do it for free all weekend long.

The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife invites everyone to fish for free on Maine’s waterways Saturday and Sunday—no license required. All other rules and regulations apply, including bag and possession limits. Those who have had their license suspended or revoked may not participate.

Commissioner Chandler Woodcock said, “There are wonderful fishing opportunities throughout the state on nearly 6,000 lakes and ponds and more than 30,000 miles of rivers and streams.”

Maine boasts exceptional wild brook trout, landlocked salmon, smallmouth bass, and plenty of other fish species.  The Inland Fisheries and Wildlife Department stocks more than 1 million fish each year and manages more than 20 species of freshwater game fish.
