Waterville Police Chief Joseph Massey says 34-year-old BethMarie Retamozzo was arrested at a rest area along Interstate 95 in South Carolina at about 10:15 p.m. Saturday. He says her children, 7-year-old Joslyn Retamozzo and 6-year-old Joel Retamozzo, are safe and in the custody of South Carolina officials.

Waterville police got an arrest warrant for Retamozzo on Friday on two counts of felony criminal restraint by a parent after she took them during a supervised visit on Thursday. Police say the children's grandmother has had court-ordered custody of them for several years.

Massey says he's working with South Carolina police to have Retamozzo brought back to Maine to face charges.
