A Maine man was sentenced in U.S. District Court Wednesday after pleading guilty for using the internet to access child pornography, for the intent to view it, in October of 2017.

U.S. Attorney Halsey B. Frank stated the 61-year old David L. Cook of Burnham, Maine was sentenced to 15 years in prison and 10 years of supervised release for using the internet to access child porn, with the intent of viewing it.

Because Cook had a prior, qualifying conviction, he faced a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in prison.

Court records indicated that in August of 2016, the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit (MCCU) received a report from Microsoft that a user had uploaded an image of child porn.

Federal and state law enforcement were able to acquire a physical address for the user, executed a warrant at that address, and seized Cook's computer.

The MCCU's forensic team found over 30 images of child porn and that Cook searched the internet for those images on over a dozen times between March and August 2016.

The case was investigated, in part by the MCCU and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Homeland Security Investigations.
