Presque Isle Looks Tough Against Gardiner, Stays Unbeaten [GIRLS]

After witnessing the Hermon boys upset top-seed Oceanside Saturday afternoon, the No. 1 seed Presque Isle girls team weren't taking any chances, and built a big lead against No. 8 Gardiner in their quarterfinal match-up.

By the end of the third period, Presque Isle was up 52-27, and when the buzzer sounded, the Wildcats walked away with a 67-42 win.

Hannah Graham and Krystal Kingsbury were named co-players of the game.

Presque Isle now has won 63 games in a row, and is looking to win its third title in as many years. But first, the Wildcats will have to get past a Foxcroft Academy team who gave them all they could handle in their most recent match-up.

Bangor Rams and Oxford Hills Battle in Augusta [BOYS]

The No. 3 Bangor Rams (13-5)  started off 3-4 from beyond the arc in their Eastern Maine Class quarterfinal match-up against No. 6 Oxford Hills (11-7) at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday afternoon.

While Bangor was able to build a 26-20 at the half, foul trouble contributed to a rough second half for the Rams who ended up losing 44-41. Bangor did cut the lead to 3 with just 26 seconds left after Xavier Lewis hit a 3-pointer and scored again on a turnover.

Andy Fleming led Oxford Hills with 24 points, and was named player of the game.

Bangor and Oxford Hills had met once during the season, with Bangor earning a 51-49 win in South Paris in January.

Nokomis Warriors Outpace John Bapst Crusaders [GIRLS]

The Noklomis Warriors got off to a fast start in the first game of the Saturday session, and didn't let up, defeating the John Bapst Crusaders 42-22.

Senior Taylor Shaw finished with 19 points for Nokomis.

Nokomis leaves the game at 19-0, and the second seed in the Eastern Maine Class B girls bracket. The Warriors have reached the Eastern Maine finals in the past two years, but have lost to Presque Isle, who sits atop the bracket. The Wildcats play at 4:35 p.m.

First, however, the Warriors will have to get through the MDI Trojans in the semi-finals on Wednesday. MDI defeated Ellsworth Friday night.
