Memorial Day is here and the summer driving season has started and there is good news and bad news for Maine motorists. The good news is that Maine motorists are paying 37 cents per gallon less than last year, the bad news is that gas prices continue to climb. The statewide average is now at $2.37 per gallon, that's an increase over more than two cents per gallon.

According to GasBuddy.com, the national average for a gallon of gas was up by four cents per gallon, for an average price of $2.32 per gallon.

A gas station in Newport is reporting the lowest gas price in Maine at $2.22 per gallon.

The lowest gas prices in the country are in Mississippi with an average of $2.08 per gallon.

New Hampshire has the lowest gas prices in New England, with an average of $2.28 per gallon.
