What started out as a routine traffic stop turned into a drug trafficking arrest.

Maine State Police stopped a vehicle on the Alfred Rd. in Kennebunk shortly after 7:00 pm on Tuesday, May 10, for a traffic violation.The operator was identified as 20-year old Matthew Petrucci from Lyman. Petrucci’s driver’s license was under suspension and he was removed from the vehicle. A scale was located on his person, however Petrucci claimed he had no drugs on him.

A State Police narcotics K-9 responded to the scene and “sniffed” around Petrucci. The K-9 provided a positive alert to the odor of an illegal narcotic on Petrucci. He still maintained he had no drugs on him and he was arrested for Operating after Suspension.

Petrucci was transported to the York County Jail and as he was being led into the facility he admitted to having drugs on him. Officer’s then seized approx. 21 grams of suspected heroin from his groin area.

Petrucci was subsequently charged with Aggravated Trafficking in Heroin (Class A) and his bail was set at $10,000 cash. Petrucci will make his first court appearance in York County Superior Court on July 22, 2016.
