Maine State Police responded to the accident on the New Canada Road at approximately 3:20 p.m., according to Corporal Dennis Quint. The initial investigation showed the teen was driving too fast, lost control of her car and went off the roadway.

The 2000 Buick Sedan became airborne and crashed, ending up on its side suspended in some trees, Quint said.  Police say the driver was trapped and Fort Kent Fire Department and first responders cut her from the vehicle.

The girl suffered a broken neck and two broken orbital bones and was transported by Fort Kent Ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center. She was later transferred to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor. Police are not releasing the teen's identity. No word on her condition Sunday morning.

Speed and texting while driving are the suspected causes at this time, Cpl. Quint said. The girl was wearing her seat belt.

State Troopers Travis Luce and Andrew Levesque investigated the crash. The investigation continues.
