A five-acre parcel of land donated by Robert K. Irving, President of Cavendish Farms Operations, Inc., was dedicated today to be the future home of The County's first hospice care facility.
The Aroostook 'House of Comfort' - a six-bed, state-of-the-art facility will provide palliative and end-of-life care in a comfortable, homelike setting. With Maine having only two hospice houses- in Auburn and Scarborough- the need for a hospice facility in The County has been something many families have been asking for.
According to Rick Duncan, President of The Aroostook Hospice Foundation, hospice brings together the best of both worlds; a nursing home and hospital, with round-the-clock care:
Wayne MacDonald, Vice President Corporate Relations/Irving Group of Companies, says the donation of this land has been a way to give back to The County:
The new hospice facility is projected to be completed by the summer of 2015. For more information visit aroostookhospicehouse.com
