Kelly Clarkson Named Grand Marshal of 2016 Nashville Christmas Parade
Kelly Clarkson will serve as grand marshal for the 63rd annual Piedmont Natural Gas Nashville Christmas Parade presented by Tootsie's.
"I love our city of Nashville and couldn’t be more proud to be the grand marshal for this year’s Christmas Parade," says Clarkson. “See y’all there!”
The theme of this year's Nashville Christmas Parade will be "The Musical Mile," in honor of the estimated length of the parade route. The parade will take place on Dec. 3 at 9AM and will be televised live by WKRN-TV in Nashville. The parade route begins at Broadway and 8th Avenue and heads east down Broadway to 2nd Avenue North; the parade will then cross the Cumberland River and end at the base of the Woodland Street Bridge.
“Piedmont Natural Gas is thrilled to have Kelly Clarkson, the nation’s first American Idol, to be our Nashville Christmas Parade grand marshal this year,” says an executive from Piedmont Natural Gas. “Our parade is one of Nashville’s favorite holiday traditions. We are working hard to make this year’s event our best one ever, and having an artist with Kelly’s talent and career achievements as our grand marshal only adds to the excitement."
Some of the proceeds from this year's parade will benefit the Monroe Carrell Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt, as well as Piedmont's Share the Warmth program, which is an energy assistance program that helps low-income families pay their energy bills.
In June, Clarkson announced a new record, to be released in 2017, on her new label home, Atlantic Records. The disc will be a soul- and R&B-influenced album, but in early 2015, Clarkson told Time magazine that while she was working on her latest project, Piece By Piece, she was also working on a country record.
“I had a pop record left on my contract, so we decided to put this one out first,” Clarkson said at the time. “But I will have a country album that will come out. I always tell people I might do Broadway one day, I might do an R&B album. I just like music. It doesn’t just stop at just one genre.”
