Joey + Rory Perform ‘Play Me the Waltz of the Angels’ at the Opry [Watch]
Country fans are still remembering the life of Joey Martin Feek, of country duo Joey + Rory, following her passing on March 4. The Grand Ole Opry is following suit by releasing footage of the couple singing Buck Owens and the Derailers' "Play Me the Waltz of the Angels" at one of their final Opry performances.
The video above comes from a November 2013 show that took place at the historical Ryman Auditorium. Joey + Rory made multiple appearances on country's most famous stage throughout their career, and though they may never be able to appear like that together again, this video is a beautiful reminder of Joey doing what she loved in such a revered place.
Joey takes the lead on this rendition, with guitar in hand and her husband beside her. She looks so right on the Opry stage, and sounds even better there, too.
"He said, 'Play me the waltz of the angels / And I'll close my eyes and pretend / Play me the waltz of the angels/ So I can dance with my angel again,'" she sings. "He said, 'Yes, that's the song I remember / That's the one that she loved the best / It was playing the night that I met her / And it was playing when we laid her to rest.'"
It is heartbreaking how much relevance this song must now have to the entire Feek family, but this Opry performance will surely become a classic. Rory Feek has announced that he will no longer pursue a singing career now that his wife is gone, but he had a successful career as a songwriter before they met and married, and he's also involved in an upcoming film project.
