Jimmie Allen has come a long way from his early days in Nashville, when he lived in his car while fighting to make his way into the country music spotlight. These days, Allen has a stable living situation and a successful musical career, thanks in large part to his No. 1 debut single, "Best Shot."

The first time Allen heard his song on country radio, he says, "Best Shot" immediately made an impact on his life -- and on the number of people who followed him on social media. Read on to learn more about the first time the singer heard himself on the radio, including the "weird living arrangement" that he was in at the time.

First time I heard this song on the radio, I was -- I'm always in a weird living arrangement when things happen. I was in my new place I had downtown -- no furniture; I just had a blanket and my two stuffed animals ... That's weird! And a pillow.

And my phone kept blowing up, so [finally] I was like, "What?!" And they said, "Hey, man, Bobby Bones [host of a syndicated show on iHeartRadio stations] just played your song."

So, when Bobby played it, it played in every region, and I got, like, 8,000 followers that day. I was laying in my new place, [on a] blanket, listening to it on my phone.
