Loretta Lynn Sings ‘Country Christmas’ With Jennifer Nettles, Trisha Yearwood
Loretta Lynn graced the Grand Ole Opry stage for the 2016 CMA Country Christmas special on ABC Monday night (Nov. 28), offering a beautiful performance of "Country Christmas" off her new holiday album White Christmas Blue.
Rather than sing the song by herself, the 84-year-old legend was accompanied by host Jennifer Nettles and Trisha Yearwood. "I hope you don't mind if we join in," Nettles said as she introduced the performance.
Lynn didn't mind one bit. She took over the song on lead vocals while Nettles and Yearwood assisted on the chorus. Dressed in a floor-length turquoise gown, Lynn's stage presence captivated as she sang her song. As the three singers performed with the backing band, an image of snow falling down on the backdrop was displayed while Lynn described her idea of the perfect Christmas in song form.
This year, Lynn released her second holiday album. White Christmas Blue follows Lynn’s first holiday release in 1966, Full Circle, which became her 40th Top 10 country album and her highest-charting album ever on the Billboard Top 200. 2016's White Christmas Blue includes Lynn’s interpretations of holiday classics like “Winter Wonderland,” “Frosty the Snowman,” “White Christmas” and more. She co-wrote the title track with Shawn Camp.
In addition to Lynn's performance, many country artists took the stage at the famed venue for 2016's CMA Country Christmas. Joey Alexander joined Kelsea Ballerini, while Kelly Clarkson, Andra Day, Brett Eldredge, Amy Grant, Lynn, Sarah McLachlan, Idina Menzel, Kacey Musgraves, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Jordan Smith and Chris Young also had time in the spotlight.
