Jana Kramer Not ‘Done With Nashville’
Singer Jana Kramer is not done with Nashville, but she may have moved to Los Angeles. During a recent interview she revealed the direction of her new music, which she says is coming very soon.
Chicago Splash reports that Kramer moved to Los Angeles recently and has parted ways with her record label Warner Music Nashville (she's no longer featured on the label's website). But that doesn't mean the music will stop. In fact, Kramer says she'll debut new music this weekend at the Windy City Smokeout in Chicago. The songs are very personal — her motto is that "If I haven't lived it, I won't sing it."
"Nashville wanted to put me in a box," Kramer tells Splash, adding that the business model dictated "how I was supposed to sing and what I was supposed to sing about."
In disputing the interpretation that this quote meant she was permanently done with Nashville, Kramer tweeted a few more details about the EP. She worked with well-known songwriter Nicolle Galyon on some songs, and she'll have a release date for fans "in a few more weeks." She also confirmed a tweet from a fan who asked if she'd be singing more country music on this next project.
Kramer's biggest hits on Warner Music Nashville were the Top 10 hits "Why Ya Wanna" and "I Got the Boy." Over the last five years she often made the news for non-musical reasons, as well, including the beginning and end of a relationship with singer Brantley Gilbert, her marriage and separation from football player Michael Caussin, her performance on the hit ABC reality show Dancing With the Stars and the revelation that her first husband was abusive.
On Instagram, Kramer identifies as a mother first, with photos of 1-year-old Jolie dominating her feed. She previously lived in Los Angeles and worked as an actress before moving to Nashville. It's not clear if she'll resume acting, but several years ago she told Taste of Country she was 100 percent committed to music.
