’Tis the season for images of movies that none of us will be able to see until months from now! The latest was a kind of Christmas present from the folks over at the remake of Stephen King’s It, but unfortunately it’s more awkward than scary. The image shows Pennywise — who else? — lurking inside a larger-than-life sewer pipe, seemingly floating somehow above the ground.

The image was debuted on Monday by Entertainment Weekly:

This is… this is photoshopped, right? Very photoshopped? Extremely photoshopped? The real mystery of Pennywise seems to be how he kept himself suspended above the murky waters inside the pipe while this photo was taken. Spooky.

While this photo shows a more lurky, shadowy Pennywise, director Andrés Muschietti says (per EW) that that’s not always the case with this clown.

Pennywise shows up, he’s front and center, and he does his show. He has an act. So it’s weird all the time, and every little thing implies a further threat.

It’s certainly a slightly different take on a villain who seems all the moe menacing when he does keep to the shadows, but Bill Skarsgard’s version of the creepy clown does look like some serious nightmare fuel, and certainly not like someone you’d want to play peekaboo with.

The new It remake hits theaters September 8, 2017.
