Ah yes! The 12 Days of Christmas have officially begun today - December 13! It's 12 days until the big day so you can probably expect some gifts from your 'true love', right?

Due to inflation, the cost of buying your true love all of the gifts called for in the song, "The 12 Days of Christmas" is going to be a bit higher than it was last year, but not by much.

Here's a tongue-in-cheek glance at what inflation has done to gift purchasing this year.

Here is the 2018 price cost of "The 12 Days of Christmas" gifts compared to 2017:

  • A partridge in a pear tree cost $220.13 (+0.1%)
  • Two turtle doves will cost $375.00 (unchanged)
  • Three French Hens will cost $181.50 (unchanged)
  • Four Calling Birds will cost $599.96 (unchanged)
  • Five Gold Rings will cost $750.00 (-9.1%)
  • Six geese-a-laying will cost $390.00 (+8.3%)
  • Seven swans-a-swimming will cost $13,125.00 (unchanged) WOW!
  • Eight maids-a-milking will cost $58.00 (unchanged)
  • Nine ladies dancing will cost $7,552.84 (unchanged)
  • 10 lords-a-leaping will cost $10,000 (+3%)
  • 11 pipers piping will cost $2,804.40 (+3.5%)
  • 12 drummers drumming will cost $3,038.10 (+3.5%)

According to financial strategist Derrick Kinney the cost of gold rings has actually gone down significantly, but labor costs have been creeping up on us. Therefore, to hire real people seems to be more expensive, than non-human items.

So, unless you're hiring Phil Collins or Neil Peart to play drums at your next party, it doesn't look like the cost for gifts of the 12 Days of Christmas will cost you a whole lot more this year.
