According to Maine State Police, 24-year-old Shawn Fletcher of St. Francis was heading north on Rt 161 when he lost control of his car on the icy road and skidded into a snowbank and struck a utility pole.

The impact with the pole dislodged a wire, causing it to lower. A moment later a tractor trailer operated by 43-year-old Rudy Rioux of Fort Kent struck the low hanging wire, pulling down more wires and breaking the utility pole.

A power outage followed the accident for residences in the area for a short time until a utility crew managed to replace the pole and fix the wires.

Rioux’s truck did not sustain any damages, Fletcher’s vehicle sustained minor damages.

Fletcher was transported to Northern Maine Medical for treatment of possible minor injuries.
