The Husson University men’s and women's basketball team now know who they will be playing in the first round of the Division III NCAA basketball tournament after the selection shows on Monday afternoon.

The Eagles on the men's side will face the Babson College Beavers in the match-up at Wellesley, Massachusetts.  The Beavers are 25-2 on the season after losing just once during the regular season to Amherst on the road.  MIT bested Babson in the NEWCAC Tournament finals by a final of 67-62 over the weekend.  Babson was ranked number one in the nation in last week's DIII poll before the loss in the finals.

Babson is led by Joey Flannery who is averaging 22.4 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest this season and Nick Comenale who is at 16.1 points per game.  The Eagles bested #3 ranked Thomas College in the NAC finals to secure an automatic bid in the NCAA tournament.  The conference crown was the 25th in school history.

The Eagles and Beavers will square off in the first round match-up on Friday, March 3rd.

The women's side will take on DeSales in the region hosted by Tufts.  The Bulldogs are 20-7 on the season and lost in the MAC Freedom title game to FDU-Fordham by a score of 68-62.  DeSales is led in scoring by Morgan McCollian who had 15.1 points per contest and 8.6 rebounds.  Leandra Sterner has 12.4 per game with the Bulldogs in the season too.

The Eagles and Bulldogs will square off in the first round match-up on Friday, March 3rd from Tufts.

University of New England will face Scranton, St. Joseph's will take on Tufts, and Bowdoin will take on SUNY New-Paltz in other Maine college match-ups in the first round of the NCAAs on the women's side.
