The RCMP says human remains found on a small island near Sheffield, New Brunswick in August have been identified as those of 40-year-old transient who had been staying in the Fredericton area.

David John Watt was last seen in Fredericton on December 2, 2013 and was reported missing to the Fredericton Police Force in February of this year.

Police were able to positively identify Watt through the police investigation and information supplied by the public.

The circumstances surrounding David Watt's death are still under investigation as his cause of death has not yet been determined. The Oromocto RCMP and Fredericton Police are working together on the investigation.
