The largest wind farm in New England is nearing completion in Oakfield, Maine. SunEdison plans to showcase the 148-megawatt wind farm to the media on Friday, weather permitting.

The Oakfield Wind project includes 48 turbines, each of them 479 feet tall. First Wind, a subsidiary of SunEdison, has been erecting the turbines, building a substation and expanding another, and laying down more than 58 miles of high-voltage transmission line.

The wind farm is expected to go online in October and will generate enough power for about 50-thousand homes. Most of the energy will be sold to utility companies in Massachusetts.
