The Presque Isle Fire Department battled a fast-moving fire this morning at a home across the street from the University of Maine at Presque Isle.

Police, ambulance personnel and firefighters responded to the blaze around 7:10 this morning at the Beaulieu residence on 84 University Street.  A man who was inside the house when the fire broke out reportedly made it out safely after a neighbor alerted him of the fire.

The residential street just off Main Street in Presque Isle was closed off while fire crews extinguished the blaze and kept it from spreading to nearby homes.  The Presque Isle Fire Department received mutual aid from Mapleton and Caribou.

No one was injured although a pet cat perished in the fire. The home and adjoining garage were a total loss. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
