Karen McGrath, an experienced health-care executive, has been chosen as the next chief executive officer of the Horizon Health Network.
New Brunswick Health Minister Victor Boudreau says McGrath brings more than 35 years of experience in the health-care sector in Atlantic Canada and Central Canada.

McGrath, a native of Newfoundland and Labrador, will assume the position in January when current CEO John McGarry retires.

McGrath comes to New Brunswick following more than 14 years as CEO at the Georgian Bay General Hospital, Newfoundland and Labrador Central Health, the Ontario Division of the Canadian Mental Health Association, and Health and Community Services of Central Newfoundland and Labrador.

McGrath holds a master’s degree in business administration, a bachelor’s degree in social work from Memorial University, and a diploma in health services management from the Canadian Hospital Association.

Boudreau said McGrath’s selection was the result of an open national search. Last June, the Department of Health used an executive search firm to help find a new CEO for the Horizon Health Network.
