South Regional Champions were crowned Saturday in high school football which means only 8 teams are left playing as state championship weekend approaches.Teams claiming championships in the south include Thornton Academy, Marshwood, Yarmouth and Oak Hill. They join Portland, Brunswick, Winslow and MCI who won north regional championships Friday night.

The first gold ball will be handed out on Friday when the Class D game is played at Alfond Stadium on the UMaine campus. This will be a re-match of last years title game when Oak Hill beat MCI 41-21. The other three games will be played on Saturday at Fitzpatrick Stadium in Portland. Times for those games will not be determined until teams meet with the Maine Principals Association Monday morning.
