It's a good thing when parents are paying attention to their children, especially the kind of media they are consuming in their lives. Some are just not appropriate.

Not long ago, a survey was done to find out what books parents thought was not good reading material for their kids and wanted the subject matter removed from the public libraries.

You could find many of these books in the Juvenile Fiction Section of the library.

  1. "This One Summer" by Mariko Tamaki. Reasoning - Includes LGBT, drug use, and profanity, and considered sexually explicit with mature themes. The book also has connections with Common Core.
  2. "Drama" by Raina Telgemeir - Includes LGBT characters, sexually explicit, and considered to have an offensive political viewpoint.
  3. "George" by Alex Gino - Includes a transgender child, and the sexuality was not appropriate at elementary levels.
  4. "I Am Jazz" by Jessica Herthel and Jazz Jennings - Portrays a transgender child, language, sex education, and offensive viewpoints.
