Heating oil prices in Maine have dropped about 8 cents this week, according to the latest statewide survey by the Governor’s Energy Office.

The average cash price for No. 2 heating oil this week was $3.16 per gallon.  Kerosene prices are averaging $3.73 per gallon as October draws to a close. That's 6 cents a gallon less than last week. Propane prices are down a penny to $2.83 per gallon.

Prices for heating oil across Maine have dropped 34 cents since July, in contrast to the typical rise in prices as the heating season gets underway.

In northern Maine, oil prices are averaging $3.24 per gallon this week, with the low price at $3.16 and the high at $3.30.

The Governor's Energy Office has a calculator on its web site that allows you to estimate home heating costs,  based on various types of fuel, heating systems and heating appliances.
