Today, the State of Maine (AKA "The Pine Tree State", AKA "The 207") celebrates its 198th birthday!

According to wikipedia, it is the 39th most extensive state, and the 9th least populated state.

The area was inhabited by Native Americans for thousands of years.  The first European settlement was the French colony of Saint Croix Island (established in 1604).  The first English settlement was Popham Colony (1607)

Until it was admitted as a state in March of 1820, it was a part of Massachusetts.

This video does a great job of illustrating why we love living in Maine
