Police are investigating a highway accident in Alberta that took the life of a woman from Grand Falls, New Brunswick.

Emergency crews responded to the collision between a Dodge Ram pickup and a Hyundai passenger car around 11 o'clock Friday night in Clairmont, just north of Grande Prairie, Alberta. The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Guylaine Ouellette, formerly of Grand Falls.

A male passenger in Ouellette's car was taken to hospital with unspecified injuries.

Investigators believe the driver of the truck was heading west on Township Road 724  and struck the car as he was attempting to enter Highway 2.

RCMP have charged 29-year-old Nathaniel Plamondon of Clairmont, Alberta with impaired driving causing death. Police said his blood-alcohol level was above the legal limit.

Plamondon was not injured in the crash. He is to make his first court appearance in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on March 24.
