New Brunswick RCMP are cautioning that fluctuating temperatures can make river ice unsafe to travel on after an off-road vehicle fell through ice on the Tracadie River.

Tracadie RCMP responded around 7:00 p.m. Friday to a call that an off-road vehicle had gone through the ice near the Snowball bridge.  The vehicle was making its way across what appeared to be a frozen river when it broke through thin ice.

One of the four people on the vehicle, a woman, was able to get out and call for help.

The others, two men and a woman, were rescued by four people who were in the area at that time.

The off-road riders were taken to hospital, treated and released.

Police say temperature swings of over 20 degrees in short periods have made some ice uncertain for snowmobiles and other off-road vehicles.
