The Oromocto RCMP responded to the crash on Route 102 shortly after 9 p.m., according to Sgt. André Duval. The investigation found that a vehicle travelling east went off the road and struck a hydro pole, Duval said.

The driver, a 23-year-old man from Fredericton, died at the scene. He was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

RCMP say the investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing, but excessive speed is believed to have been a factor.
