Fort Fairfield Man Charged in Buggy Hit and Run

A Fort Fairfield man has been charged in connection with a hit and run accident in Easton that destroyed a horse drawn carriage.

At around 3:00 Monday afternoon, Trooper Jill Monahan and Sgt. Brian Harris of the Maine State Police responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash on Route 1A in Easton.

State Police say a 16-year-old boy from the local Amish community was operating a horse-drawn buggy southbound when a 2013 Volkswagen, driven by 20-year-old Brandon Clark of Fort Fairfield, struck the rear of the carriage.

The buggy traveled off the road into a lawn and was destroyed in the crash. The horse and the boy were not injured.

Police say Clark drove away from the accident scene but was later identified and he and his car were located. The Volkswagen sustained significant damage to the front end. Clark was not injured in the crash, according to Sgt. Harris.

Clark is being charged with Leaving the Scene of a Property Damage Accident, Driving to Endanger, Failure to Maintain Control of a Motor Vehicle and Failure to Use Caution When Passing an Animal.
