The forest fire just across the border in Perth-Andover has died down significantly due to the rain. Officials are still worried about the wind picking up and re-igniting the flames.

Officials say the fire is burning along a major power line about 2 1/2 kilometers from the villages. 200 homes were evacuated as a pre-caution and schools were shut down in the area today.

The Department of Natural Resources estimates the size of the fire to be about 100 hectares. The Canadian Red Cross has stepped in to help those who have been evacuated.

I had a chance to speak with Rachel Smith who works at the Foodland in Perth-Andover about what she saw regarding the fire.
