The ice melt is on with the recent mild temperatures in Northern Maine, and the National Weather Service Office in Caribou has issued a flood watch.

The NWS says there will be an increased ice jam flood threat from Monday through Wednesday.

Mild temperature will produce significant snow melt across the region on Monday which will contribute to rising river levels which could cause ice to move an possibly jam. Temperatures will remains above freezing Monday night ahead of an approaching cold front which will cause continued snow melt.

Moderate to heavy rain will move in to the area for much of the day on Tuesday. The threat of flooding will increase Tuesday with rising river levels. The threat of ice jam flooding will then persist Tuesday night through Wednesday while river levels continue to rise and ice movement continues.

Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
