Flood Warning Posted Thursday in Aroostook County [PHOTOS]
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Warning along rivers and streams in Aroostook County until at least mid-afternoon Thursday.
Rapid snow melt this week is causing rising water levels, resulting in ice movement and jams on the Aroostook River and tributaries including the Little Madawaska River. The weather service says river levels will continue to rise this week with further ice jamming likely.
Fort Fairfield Public Safety officials say the Grimes Road remains closed at the Caribou and Fort Fairfield town line Thursday due to rising waters from the Aroostook River associated with an ice jam.
Officials are monitoring a large ice jam at the Dickey Bridge on the Saint John River, which has led to flooding concerns in the Allagash area.
