Firefighters battled a blaze Sunday in Oromocto, N.B. after the homeowner had evacuated the home due to rising floodwaters from the Saint John River.

The Oromocto Fire Department was called to the home along Route 105 around 9 a.m., according to a post on their Facebook page. When crews arrived, heavy flames were coming out of the attic and a window on the second floor and floodwaters were surrounding the home.

About 20 firefighters had to wade through the icy waters as they worked to contain the fire. Officials say the home was unoccupied at the time since the owner had recently evacuated due to the flooding.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
