According to Public Safety Spokesman Steve McCausland, the blaze consumed the two story home of Curtis Probert on Birch Point Road.

Fire investigators report Probert was able to escape the fire, but collapsed in his driveway. The Medical Examiner’s Office said Probert died from a combination of smoke inhalation and burns.

Firefighters arrived late Saturday afternoon and investigators believe because of the complete destruction of the house, the cause of the fire cannot be determined.

The fire was discovered by Probert’s wife, Antoinette Probert, who lives in a mobile home next door to the house.
