A home in the tiny community of Temperance Vale, New Brunswick was destroyed by fire on Wednesday.

Brunswick News reports that someone driving past the house around 2:30 p.m. spotted flames and smoke coming from the back of the building and ran to alert the homeowner, who made it out safely.

Firefighters from Nackawic, Millville and Dumfries responded to the blaze and remained on scene well into the evening. The two-storey house was a total loss, with only one wall left standing.

The cause of the fire is under investigation but officials say it appears to be electrical in nature. The Red Cross was notified. The home's occupants are currently staying with friends or relatives.
