The Woodstock Fire Department was called to the fire on Route 555 near Richmond Corner at 12:18 a.m., according to Fire Chief Ricky Nicholson. The home was vacant at the time and under renovations. When firefighters arrived, flames were shooting up the exterior wall of the 1 1/2 storey house.

Woodstock Fire crews knocked down the blaze in under an hour and remained on scene until about 3 a.m., said Nicholson.  The house remains standing but sustained extensive damage to the interior.

Chief Nicholson said since the fire originated on the outside of the structure, it is being called suspicious. The Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating.
