At the time received the call, the driver was trapped with power lines down. The caller hung up on dispatch when asked to stay away from the vehicle, according to a Facebook post from the Sheriff's Office.

Suspecting that the caller was going to try to help the driver out of the vehicle, the Sheriff’s Office requested that Central Maine Power Company make an immediate dump of the power grid for that area.

The driver, 24-year-old Nicholas Cawood of Standish, was able to get out of the truck with help from local residents. Cawood sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene by Standish Rescue. A 13-week old puppy was killed in the crash.

Police say speed and alcohol were factors. Cawood was charged with OUI and is due in court on January 17.
