RCMP received a call at approximately 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday that a snowmobile crashed on Frédéric Road in Saint-Basile.  The two male snowmobilers were located down an embankment and were taken to hospital by ambulance, according to Cpl. Matthieu Gauthier of the Grand Falls RCMP Detachment.

The victim, identified as 19-year-old Jessy Doiron, passed away a few hours later at Edmundston Regional Hospital. The other snowmobiler remained in hospital in stable condition.

The two men were not wearing helmets and police believe alcohol was also a contributing factor. The investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing.
