Maine State Police report one man died and a woman was seriously injured in a two-vehicle collision Monday afternoon in Lyman.

Troopers said 29-year-old Alexander McInnis of Hollis was driving south on Route 35 around 3:45 p.m. when he crossed into the northbound lane and struck a vehicle operated by 46-year-old Rachel Thurston of Lovell.

Police say McInnis died at the scene. Thurston was transported by Goodwins Mills Rescue to Maine Medical Center in Portland with what police called “non-life threatening injuries.”

The investigation continues and it is not known why McInnis crossed into the opposite lane. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, police say.
