The Fort Fairfield Police Department responded to a single motor vehicle crash on the North Caribou Road around 10:45pm last night.

Police say 49 year old Sherilyn Bennett of Fort Fairfield was traveling northwest on the North Caribou Road in a 1998 Chrysler Concord when she lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree. Bennett was transported via Crown Ambulance to Cary Medical Center where she was treated for minor injuries.

Her passenger, 42 year old Larry A. Sawyer, also of Fort Fairfield, was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation and no cause has been determined at this time. Maine State Police Trooper Robert Flynn is reconstructing the crash.

Sgt. Shawn Newell of the Fort Fairfield Police Department is leading the investigation and was assisted by Crown Ambulance, Fort Fairfield Fire Department, Maine State Police, and the Maine Warden Service.
