The American Red Cross is working with a family of four in southern Aroostook County to ensure that they have food, a safe place to sleep and other essentials following a fire at their home.

Firefighters responded to the blaze in the border community of Orient on Thursday. Damage to the single-family home was extensive.

Over the next several days, a Disaster Action Team from the Red Cross will stay in contact with the family to provide financial assistance and community referrals as they begin to make their road to recovery, according to spokesperson Ann Kim.
