Eric Paslay's grandfather, Cecil Paslay, died on Saturday (Sept. 2). According to a post to social media, he was 90 years old.

The singer-songwriter turned to Instagram to share the sad news, paying tribute and sharing stories about his grandfather, who sounds like a colorful character.

"I will miss him telling stories about how he and my grandmother met in Houston. I will miss stories of him being a referee for high school football, stories about working at Goodyear for over 30 years and I will really miss him telling the story about smelling 'rope' burning when he worked lights at a Willie Nelson show," Paslay writes.

His grandfather was a key supporter in Paslay's own career.

"I will miss seeing him at my own shows. He was one of my first fans, so much so that he would buy 10 CDs at a show and try to hide them acting like he [bought] 1! I will miss my Grandpa, but I know we will meet again because of the grace and love of Jesus," Paslay continues.

"I am proud to be the grandson of Cecil Paslay and I wouldn't be who I am today with our him. Love you Grandpa, say hi to Grandma for me!"

Paslay released his self-titled debut album in 2014, scoring a hit with "Friday Night." He most recently released "Angels in This Town," the second single from his forthcoming second album, which is tentatively titled Dressed in Black. No release date has been announced for that project. He's also written hits for other artists, including Jake Owen's "Barefoot Blue Jean Night," the Eli Young Band's "Even If It Breaks Your Heart" and Love and Theft's "Angel Eyes."
