Capt. Don Goulet of the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office says 84-year-old Arthur Ames of Standish was exiting the Manchester Road onto Route 25 at about 9 pm when his 2013 Nissan Sentra traveled into the path of a westbound 2012 Jeep Liberty driven by 19-year-old Samantha Woodbrey of Cornish.

Ames' vehicle was hit in the front driver's side door area. He and his wife, who was a passenger in the vehicle, were taken to Maine Medical Center where Arthur Ames died from his injuries. Police say next of kin were present. 85-year-old Angeline Ames remained in critical condition on Sunday morning. The younger Woodbrey was checked and released at the scene.

Authorities say it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Standish Emergency personnel were assisted by rescue personnel from Gorham and Limington Fire and Rescue.
