Swan, Gustafsson Lead Maine Past Lowell [VIDEO]

The University of Maine women have played well at home this season and Wednesday was no exception as they beat UMass Lowell 74-44 improving to 6-0 on their home floor.

Maine outscored Lowell 24-5 in the second quarter and kept their foot on the gas never letting the Riverhawks to get close the rest of the way.

The Bears got a career high 19 points form Bella swan who has found the scoring touch of late. Mikaela Gustafsson added 12 points and 7 rebounds while Sigi Koizar also hit double digits with 11 points, 5 assists and 5 steals.

The win puts the Bears record at 12-6 overall and 3-0 in America East. They will face their toughest conference opponent to date on Saturday when they travel to play Albany. The Great Danes are also 3-0 in the conference this season.

UMaine basketball had to lace up the sneakers early today for an 11am tip-off at UMass-Lowell but it didn't phase the Black Bears as they cruised to a 95-81 win.

Maine used a 13-3 run over the final 3:51 of the first half to take a 10 point lead into the locker room at the half. The Bears defense played well by forcing the Riverhawks into 21 turnovers while also coming up with 17 steals.

Devine Eke led Maine with a game high 25 points while Kevin Little added 18 points to go along with 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Shawn Lawton came off the bench and was the third Bear to reach double digits in scoring with 17 points and leading the team with 6 steals.

The win is the first this season in America East and puts their conference record at 1-2 while bumping up their overall record to 5-11. Maine returns home for a 12 noon matinee on Friday at the Cross Center against Albany.
