An 18-year-old Edmundston area woman faces drug and weapons charges, after she was allegedly found to be in possession of several hundred methamphetamine tablets.

The Edmundston Police Force and members of the Northwest New Brunswick Integrated Intelligence Unit arrested Alexandra Michaud on Thursday. Afterwards, a search was conducted at a residence on Principale Street in Saint-Basile. Police say they found more methamphetamine tablets in addition to knives and drugs paraphernalia.

Michaud appeared in Edmundston Provincial Court Friday morning, where she was charged with drug possession for the purpose of trafficking and possession of a prohibited weapon.

The woman was released under certain conditions pending her next court appearance on March 22.
