State Police responded to the crash on the West Road at approximately 5:20 p.m., according to Sgt. Jeffrey Clark. Police say Mark Chasse was driving a 2007 Pontiac passenger car and was traveling above the posted limit when he met a tractor trailer operated by Gardner Flemming of Chester, Maine.

Chasse told police that the tractor trailer crossed the center line which caused him to go off the paved way into the soft shoulder, Sgt. Clark said. The car skidded across the road and ended up in the ditch.

Chasse reported that he was not wearing a seat belt and struck his head on the windshield. He was not transported to the hospital, Clark said.

Police say the truck driver was not aware of the accident and continued on to the mill where Trooper Luce met with him.

Ashland police also responded to the crash.
