A 23-year-old man from Alberta has died following a high speed crash in Rogersville, New Brunswick.

The Richibucto RCMP attempted to pull over a vehicle on Route 126 in Rogersville around 8:15 Monday night, according to Sgt. Patrick Tardif.

Police say the driver failed to stop. The police officer briefly pursued the vehicle, but stopped in the interest of the safety when the suspect's vehicle accelerated to excessive speeds.

A few minutes later, police received a report that the suspect's car had collided with a power pole then crashed into a house on Route 126 in Rogersville. The driver died at the scene, Tardif said.

There were people inside the house at the time of the crash, but not in the apartment that the vehicle crashed into. No one inside the house was injured.

The investigation is ongoing.
