West District RCMP have charged a 22-year-old man with numerous offences following a head-on collision Thursday in Nackawic.

Shortly after 4 p.m., Nackawic RCMP responded to Landegger Drive, where a minivan had collided head-on with another vehicle. The crash happened with enough force that the minivan landed on the front lawn of a nearby home, narrowly missing the house, according to S/Sgt. Ross Gorman. The driver of the minivan was not injured and fled the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle was taken to hospital with serious but what are believed to be non-life threatening injuries, Gorman said.

RCMP say 22-year-old Dylan Thornton of the Nackawic area was arrested a short time later.

Thornton appeared in Woodstock Provincial court on Friday and was charged with dangerous driving, leaving the scene of an accident, taking a vehicle without consent, as well as two counts of breach of probation. He was remanded in custody pending a bail hearing on Wednesday, December 27.

Police say speed is believed to have been a contributing factor in the collision. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.

The investigation is continuing.
