At approximately 12:30 a.m. Friday, 35-year-old Patrick Gendreau was driving south on Route 1 in Grand Isle, according to Trooper Corey Hafford.

Gendreau apparently fell asleep and his 2000 GMC pickup truck went off the road, hit an embankment and some trees, and rolled over. Police say Gendreau then walked home from the scene.

At approximately 2:45 a.m., a passerby saw the pickup and called to report the crash. Later in the morning, State Police located Gendreau and charged him with failing to report a crash by quickest means.

Gendreau complained of pain in both legs and sustained minor cuts to his face and hands as a result of the accident. Police say he was wearing a seat belt.

He is scheduled to appear in Madawaska District Court on April 6.
