During her appearance on the Christmas in Rockefeller Center TV special on Wednesday night (Nov. 30), Dolly Parton re-wrote one of her most famous songs. The country icon turned her hit "Coat of Many Colors" into "Christmas of Many Colors," telling the true story of one childhood holiday.

Sitting on a stool and strumming a glittering guitar -- patterned to be reminiscent of her famous coat -- Parton recounted via song a Christmas from her childhood when she, her father and her siblings came together to buy her mother a wedding ring. Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love, a made-for-TV movie telling the same story, aired following the Christmas in Rockefeller Center special.

“So many times, we do forget — we just think Christmas is about presents, and getting together and just eating food,” Parton says, “and it is about all that, but it’s about love and acceptance and forgiveness.”

This year’s tree is 94 feet tall and adorned with over 50,000 multi-colored Christmas lights!

Parton is currently out on the road, supporting her new album, Pure & Simple, with her Pure & Simple Tour. Fans can expect to see another made-for-TV movie from Parton, based on her song “Jolene,”soon.
